ABOUT KAREN H. TAUSCH

Karen H. Tausch, LMT, is a graduate of the Muscular Therapy Institute, and a licensed massage therapist in Boston and Brookline, Massachusetts. She is certified by the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB). She attended the training: "Medical Massage for the Cancer Patient" at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in November of 2003. In addition to her training at the Muscular Therapy Institute, Karen graduated from Regis College (Weston, Massachusetts) in 1987 with a BA in Psychology.

Karen is certified by the Dr. Vodder School of North America, a 160 hour training she enrolled in several years after massage school. Lymph Drainage is via very light touch to the skin, and prescribed movements of the hands. It can feel relaxing. For those with Lymphedema or Lipodema, Compression Bandaging would be a part of the treatment, and client self-care. The treatment can be helpful for Arthritis pain Sinus Conditions and several other conditions.

For the healthy client, Manual Lymph Drainage, whether applied to the face or not, can make the wrinkles become less pronounced. For those considering Plastic Surgury, the recovery may be shorter (you may be able to leave the house without being self-conscious about the bruising and swelling on your face) if you seek several treatments before the surgury, and a few treatments after the surgery. (the technique was started by estheticians several decades ago).

Karen continues to practice massage, when requested.

In her previous career, Karen has worked directly with the elderly and the physically disabled.

As a Licensed Massage Therapist, Karen gives a fantastic massage for both the sports enthusiast and office workers alike. She loves to feel the tension drain out of the body beneath her hands. And to find and relieve those hidden knots deep beneath the skin.

Karen provides a relaxing, yet deep massage. Her method is gentle to the touch, but goes deep to relieve tight muscles and knots. The result is a relaxing massage with refreshed, relaxed muscles. Karen finds a gentle touch can often relieve tension faster than a deep touch.

Karen relishes in doing Deep Tissue Massage. Karen uses her fingers, fists, forearms and elbows to do Deep Tissue Massage. Currently, she does not use any other tools (objects) to go into the muscle.

Karen likes to treat each client as an individual. The massage is individual, often based upon a mold of a massage session, and altered based upon what the client reports, what Karen feels with her hands at the beginning, and can be altered again, by a passing mood a few words, some music, and Karen’s playfulness during the massage session.

She loves to see the change in her clients, from the time they enter to the time they leave. Sometimes growling bears and lions can turn into purring cubs and kittens. They are much more relaxed by the end of their session. They can seem to  melt like butter over the course of the session.

Karen likes to work with all types of people. Sports enthusiasts, and desk bound office workers. Older and younger; healthy and sore; women and men. She asks that if you have a contagious illness, that you treat it and wait out the time for it to not be contagious, before scheduling an appointment, for the sake of other clients and Karen. This includes colds with coughs, sneezing and runny noses, and infectious foot fungus, like athlete’s foot, and warts. Universal precautions, such as latex gloves can be worn, in the event of skin conditions, however, wouldn’t it be nicer to have it treated? Some Massage Therapists take this care, some do not.

Karen takes the time to talk before and after the massage to see what is needed and how it suited the client. She also talks over the phone, to ask a few questions of the first-time client, about what is needed in the massage.

There are two offices and home visits or office visits can be made.

The offices are in Coolege Corner, in Brookline, Massachusetts, a quiet, spacious individual office, on the first level of the building, with a handicapped accessable parking space across the street and a handicapped bathroom in the building. A heated pad warms the client, helping with the effect of the massage, especially during the cooler months.

Another office is in the South End, in Boston, Massachusetts. A quiet space on the lower level of a building, with stairs down to the space. It is a warm space, with a comfortable feel.

Hotel and home visits are available. A massage table is brought in, with linen, and set up.

Chair massage sessions: A massage chair is brought in with supplies needed for the job. Additional massage therapists they can be arranged for, when needed. Same day service can be arranged if one massage therapist is needed and, if time permits, however, it is preferred that a minimum of several days notice is provided. A week notice is preferred if several MT are needed. Call, in any event, to inquire. Cost is reflective of the time needed to schedule, paperwork, and the payment to the workers, respective of the heavy labor being performed by the workers. Karen is happy to discuss integrating an advertising lead or gimmick into a display, if the sales representative will explain the product and the display arrangement. This can be fun for Karen.

Couples massages:  While a session for a couple could be arranged, it would be a back to back session, and since sessions are individual, with conversations taking place solely between the massage therapist and the person on the table, it is preferred to have only the client in the room, to allow the full relaxation state to occur, in their own space.

Gift Certificates:  Are mailed to the recipient’s home, the giver’s home, or another address, or emailed. Payment, often over the internet by Paypal, is also possible by check or cash.
